• Ensure labels are present and legible
• Ensure the hook and/or karabiner and thimble are clean and in working order
• Ensure the locking mechanism is checked to ensure the device is fully operational.
• Ensure the wire lifeline is intact and has no kinks, broken wires or corrosion/heavy contamination
• Ensure webbing is intact and has no nicks, burns or broken stitches
• If your indication point is deployed, remove the unit from service immediately.
Arrest Block Inspections
Inspection Outcomes & Scheduled Servicing
Post-Inspection Actions
Any fall arrest equipment that fails an inspection, has arrested a fall, or has reached its designated life span must be immediately removed from service. All inspections, maintenance, and service history must be documented and recorded on a history sheet or similar record for each piece of equipment.
Periodic Scheduled Inspections
This is a more detailed inspection conducted by a competent person or a qualified height safety equipment inspector. The frequency depends on the type of equipment:
- 6 Monthly inspections by a Height Safety Equipment Inspector – All Type 2, Type 3, Winches and Rope systems must be inspected every 6 months by a Height Safety Equipment Inspector, the results must be documented.
- 12 Monthly servicing by an authorised service and repair agent selected by the OEM, in alignment with the requirements of AS/NZS 1891.4 Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices – Selection, use and maintenance. As a guideline, generally a device should be serviced every 12 months but can be more frequent depending on how often the device is used. Some manufacturers can have service intervals up to 5 years.
